J’Shon Lee, White Mountain Apache, a student at Arizona State University and Victor Fuentes, Muscogee (Creek) have been re-elected to lead the National UNITY Council Executive Committee.
Others elected during the 2010 National UNITY Conference in San Diego were Candice Romero, Yavapai-Apache, as Vice President and Amira Madison, Aquinnah Wampanoag, as Secretary.
At-Large members of the Executive Committee are: Leslie Lockear from Red Springs, North Carolina; Kristen Dosela from Laveen, Arizona; Katelyn Jacobs from Bolton, North Carolina; Jared Massey from Fort Apache, Arizona; Josh Locklear from Maxton, north Carolina; and Jeffrey Duarte from Chilmark, Massachusetts.
The National UNITY Council is composed of two representatives (one young man and one young woman) from each affiliated youth council as well as those representing individual members of the UNITY network.
The National UNITY Council serves as the voice for American Indian and Alaska Native youth (ages 15-24) who are associated with UNITY. Business meetings are held during the UNITY Mid-Year Convening and the National UNITY Conference.
The National UNITY Council Executive Committee are the officers of the National UNITY Council. Executive Committee members meet monthly via teleconference. Youth are encouraged to communicate ideas and suggestions with the Executive Committee by e-mail at [email protected].
