Annual Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Native Youth
The annual UNITY Golf Classic raised more than $15,000 for Native American youth leadership programs. Proceeds benefit UNITY and its initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles, personal development, citizenship and leadership among Native American youth in our communities. The golf tournament, which was held at the Whirlwind Golf Club on the Gila River Indian Community, attracted golf teams from across the state.
The tournament is an annual fundraising event. This year’s major sponsors included the Wild Horse Pass Development Authority, Ak-Chin Indian Community, National Indian Gaming Association, Native American Contractors Association, and the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprises. Golfers were treated to an afternoon meal, awards ceremony, and a live auction.
This year’s Honorary Chair was professional golfer Alex Schulte of the Northern Ute Tribe. Student volunteers included the Cesar Chavez High School Youth Council and the Ak-Chin Youth Council.
