Coeur d’ Alene Tribal Youth Council Submits Moving Video
The following story and video was submitted by LoVina Louie and the Coeur d’ Alene Youth Council.
WE SHALL REMAIN is a music video that was created to address the effects of historical trauma in our tribal communities. Many times, these untended wounds are at the core of much of the self-inflicted pain experienced in Native America. Much like fire, this pain can either be devastatingly destructive or wisely harnessed to become fuel that helps us to rise up and move forward in life with joy, purpose and dignity.
LoVina Louie received a grant from the Idaho Department of Juvenile Justice Corrections and the Idaho Millennium Fund and brought together longtime allies Johnny and Kimberly Guerrero and Randy Redroad to create an original song and music video. LoVina also brought in The Jefferson Sisters from the Lummi nation and tapped former youth leader CeCe Curtis-Cook to sing on the original track.
The vocals were recorded and the video shot during The Northwest UNITY Conference hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Youth Council and many of the participants became stars of the video, which is exactly what they and all Native youth are: STARS.
WE SHALL REMAIN just helps them remember how to shine!
