UNITY Alumni and the UNITY Wellness Warrior team attended the “Empowering & Equipping Tomorrow’s Native Leaders” My Brother’s Keeper Alliance Youth Summit on April 27; hosted collectively by MBK Alliance, MBK Albuquerque, and the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow, brought together 100 Native young men to be change makers in their home communities.
The summit, designed to empower youth leaders to develop strategies that will create healthy communities and expand opportunities for success, drew Native young men between the ages of 16-25 to engage in a dialogue on the key issues affecting their local communities. Former UNITY Executive Committee Male Co-President Julian Juan was a featured speaker and helped lead breakout sessions throughout the day. “At this summit, we got to share the importance of the voices our Native men have and their roles in their communities. We also got to work on an issue that’s close to my heart, suicide prevention” said Julian. UNITY is excited to continue to support youth lead initiatives across the nation to help cultivate community youth change agents.
