National UNITY Conference to Host Taiwan Indigenous Youth
For the third year in four years, the National UNITY Conference will feature a Taiwan Indigenous youth delegation who are members of the Vox Nativa Choir. Taiwan, which sits more than 100 miles off the southeast coast of mainland China, is believed to be the homeland of the Austronesian people. In Taiwan, there are 16 Indigenous ethnicities. Those attending the National UNITY Conference will represent the Amis, Bunun, and Paiwan people.
The idea that indigenous tribes of Taiwan might benefit from the creation of youth councils led to an amazing overseas exchange, which began at the National UNITY Conference in 2013 in Los Angeles. Since then, a Taiwan Indigenous delegation has made efforts to attend the National UNITY Conference. UNITY youth leaders traveled to Taiwan in 2014.
The Vox Nativa’s Choir are planning for a cultural exchange at the conference including a tribal round dance. You can read more about vox nativa at https://voxnativausa.org/ab
