Navajo Youth Council looks to Affiliate with UNITY
The Navajo Nation Youth Advisory Council (NNYAC), which was formed just three months ago, is exploring ways to partner with UNITY including becoming an affiliated youth council. The group, with youth members representing chapters across the reservation, meets once a month. For its recent presentation in Window Rock, Arizona,, UNITY was well-represented with former National UNITY Council Executive Committee Co-President Nataanii Hatathlie, 25 Under 25 youth leader Xavier Medina and UNITY’s executive director Mary Kim Titla.
The presenters provided historical background about UNITY and ways youth can get involved. The NNYAC not only wishes to affiliate with UNITY but youth members want to have a big presence at UNITY’s Mid-year and National conferences. We look forward to seeing all of you there! Keep up your great work.
While in northern Arizona, executive director Titla stopped by Hopi HIgh School to wish its new Principal Lynn Fredericks all the best this coming school year. Lynn is a former advisor to the Hopi High School Youth Council, once very active with UNITY. Fredericks pledged to work together with UNITY to get the youth council going again. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to meet with us Lynn!
