Since 2013, Today’s Native Leaders has conducted distinctive, peer-led, culturally based, 3-day leadership training sessions for Tribal youth in different locations across the country. These regional and national gatherings provide youth the opportunity to gain valuable real life experiences and prepare them for successful future leadership roles. The project was named Today’s Native Leaders (TNL) by youth at the 2014 UNITY Midyear conference.
At TNL’s National Summit, youth teams from a diverse sampling of tribal communities will educate their peers about innovative service projects that emerged from the TNL leadership trainings. Those who attend the TNL National Summit will also take part in break-out sessions where peer leaders who have mastered aspects of the training curricula will lead groups in exercises to further engage various aspects of the action planning process used in TNL trainings.
The Summit will also provide an opportunity for youth to engage in dialogue with each other and with tribal and federal officials to share thoughts and ideas about a range of topics relevant to Native America.
Today’s Native Leaders is a partnership between United National Indian Tribal Youth, Inc. (UNITY) and the US Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)
