UNITY Participates In 2017 Navajo Nation Economic Summit

United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY) was an exhibitor at the 2nd Annual Navajo Nation Economic Summit. The event was held from May 8-10 at the Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort near Flagstaff, Arizona.

UNITY was fortunate to be randomly selected through a drawing at an Arizona American Indian Chamber of Commerce luncheon to receive a complimentary booth, as well as registration and entry into the golf tournament. UNITY project coordinators, Lynnann Yazzie and Joshua Tso, provided Native youth programming information for conference attendees.

The Summit kicked off with a Golf Tournament and Welcome Reception on Monday. A highlight of the evening was the hoop dance presentation by Tomas Hunt, Joseph Secody, and Jered Canty of Yellow World Production out of Page, Arizona. Joseph has attended UNITY events in the past with the Page High School UNITY club. He hopes to attend the upcoming 2017 National UNITY Conference in Denver, Colorado.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, attendees heard from various speakers, workshop presenters, and exhibitors about topics relating to the theme “Path to Economic Sovereignty”. The importance and promotion of Native owned businesses was prominent throughout the conference.
