UNITY Wellness Warriors at NIEA’s Journey to Discovery and Wellness Camp
UNITY’s Wellness Warriors team had the opportunity to be a part of NIEA’s “Journey to Discover and Wellness” summer camp at Riverside Indian School in Oklahoma. This comprehensive summer bridge program supports middle school aged Native young people in creating awareness of opportunities to choose healthy, holistic lifestyles in their educational journeys.
The week long experience promoted development of critical thinking skills, provided authentic experiential learning, and provoked inquiry and stimulate unique individual research focused projects that will prepare these students to achieve academic success and self-motivated learning. Speakers included Chance Rush, along with UNITY’s Wellness Warriors and WeRNative’s Tommy Ghost Dog. Together, the presenter introduced the students to health and wellness activities, that included traditional games, team building exercises, and classroom presentations.
“I am thankful for the partnership of the UNITY Wellness Warriors and Josh Tso in the Journey to Self Discovery and Wellness Camp recently, as we sought to promote healthy lifestyles and behavior change among our Native students. Josh provided an engaging interactive approach to motivate our students which was very well received and stimulated their interest in wanting to be healthy and positive about their choices.” -Jacob Tsotigh
