Utah Conference promotes UNITY
UNITY’s Executive Director Mary Kim Titla recently provided a Keynote address at the 12th Annual Governor’s Native American Summit hosted by the Utah Division of Indian Affairs held on the campus of Utah Valley University. The annual Governor’s Native American Summit is the only event of its kind in Utah, where state government, tribal leaders, community partners, educators, students, and community members converge to celebrate Native culture and find solutions to issues impacting Utah’s American Indian communities.
Titla spoke to the theme “UNITY – Strengthening Our Nations and Culture” by urging attendees to educate themselves about Native youth, their passions and how to best connect and partner with youth leaders. She also conducted workshops about the importance of developing youth councils and affiliating with UNITY.
“Utah is a beautiful state with beautiful people. I’m so thankful to have been a part to the Utah Governor’s Native American Summit. I especially enjoyed seeing Native youth play a significant role in the opening ceremony. They honored me by inviting me to participate in the Bear dance. We will work hard to help support the creation of youth councils in Utah,” said Titla.
