Restore the Balance: Native Youth Leading Healing and Change

The National UNITY Council has taken a unified stand through its resolution, “Restore the Balance: Healing Trauma & Ending Violence in Native Communities,” reflecting the voices of Native youth nationwide and outlining a path rooted in healing, cultural strength, and action.

Adopted at the 2026 UNITY Midyear Conference, the resolution highlights urgent challenges facing Native youth, including mental health disparities, substance abuse, violence, educational inequities, and intergenerational trauma. Two key priorities—generational trauma and violence against Native people (MMIP/MMIW/MMIW2S+)—stand at the forefront.

To move from awareness to action, Native youth leaders will host the “Restore the Balance” Town Hall on May 5, 2026. This free virtual event creates a safe, culturally grounded space to uplift youth voices, promote healing, and explore community-driven solutions.

The resolution calls for intergenerational dialogue, cultural revitalization, land-based healing, and youth-led advocacy—empowering Native youth to lead efforts that strengthen identity, promote safety, and restore balance in their communities.
