Indigenous Youth to Lead
“This was incredible to see just how many Indigenous youth can make an impact,” shared O’Shay Birdinground, a proud member of the Apsaalooke (Crow) Nation and a Rocky Mountain Regional Representative on UNITY’s Executive Committee. O’Shay’s inspiring leadership was on full display as he participated in the historic 2024 White House Tribal Youth Forum alongside 120 Native youth from across the United States. A Historic Platform for Native Voices
The 2024 White House Tribal Youth Forum, cohosted by the White House, UNITY Inc., and the Center for Native American Youth, provided a unique opportunity for selected youth leaders to discuss with federal officials. Designed to spotlight the issues affecting Native communities, the forum featured interactive conversations and roundtable discussions on topics like internships, jobs, and fellowships. Each attendee was chosen for their community service and impact, making O’Shay’s participation a significant honor.
“We see the struggles of our communities, and we are put in the unique position to voice those concerns with people that can make a difference,” O’Shay said. His reflections highlight the importance of Native youth sitting at the table to influence decisions that shape their futures.
