Tesuque Pueblo Youth Coalition Hosts Drug Identification Presentation to Support Community Awareness

In an effort to protect families and strengthen community health, the Tesuque Pueblo Youth Coalition hosted a Drug Identification Presentation at the Tesuque Pueblo Intergenerational Center. With 56 attendees, the event focused on raising awareness around the dangers of drug exposure—especially in homes where grandparents and great-grandparents care for young children.

As the use and presence of dangerous substances continues to rise across communities, many elders find themselves unknowingly exposed to drug paraphernalia or unable to recognize signs of drug use in others. This presentation addressed those concerns head-on, offering community members critical information on what different drugs and paraphernalia look like, how to identify symptoms of drug use in individuals, and how to safely respond.

The presentation was especially important for Tesuque families, where many elders are the primary caregivers for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The session created a supportive, judgment-free space for learning and questions, equipping families with practical tools to keep their homes and loved ones safe.

By promoting mental wellness through education and prevention, the Tesuque Pueblo Youth Coalition continues to lead proactive initiatives rooted in community care. This event emphasized the importance of knowledge, vigilance, and open dialogue in addressing the realities of substance use. The youth coalition remains committed to supporting not only their peers, but the extended families who play such vital roles in raising and protecting the next generation.
