Throughout the month of May, UNITY is proud to celebrate the 2025–2026 Circle of Earth Ambassadors by spotlighting each ambassador and sharing their reflections on what it means to be an environmental ambassador.
Meet Codie Horse-Topetchy (Gú:[dòhìñ Mà / Eagle Woman), 22, who is Kiowa, Comanche, Otoe-Missouria, and Pawnee. Raised in a traditional Kiowa household in Oklahoma, Codie is a Native American Studies major at the University of Oklahoma whose work centers on bison restoration, Kiowa history, and Otoe-Missouria ecological knowledge. She founded Dáui T’á:gyà (Good Medicine) to empower women and girls through Kiowa culture and land-based practices, and she serves on the Native Girls Mental Health Advisory Board. Codie is working toward becoming a certified Kiowa language teacher and plans to pursue a master`s in environmental science and rangeland management.
“To me, being an environmental ambassador means honoring the ways of my ancestors, who lived in reciprocity with the land and all beings. It’s about speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves — the buffalo, trees, waters, and all our non-human relatives — and taking action to protect them, just as my ancestors once did.”
Also meet Jada Allen, 21, a citizen of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, raised in Robeson County. A senior Public Policy major at Duke University with a minor in Global Health and a Health Policy Certificate, Jada has experience working with the Department of the Interior and has a strong passion for public health and environmental advocacy rooted in her community. She is also a sister of Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc.
“Being an environmental ambassador means protecting our Lumbee homelands and honoring the relationship our ancestors had with the land and water. After experiencing devastating hurricanes, I’ve committed to using my voice and actions to help our community adapt and build a sustainable future.”
Stay tuned as we continue to introduce the full Earth Ambassador Circle throughout May!
