Underscore Native News offered the 2026 Indigenous Journalism Fellowship to support the next generation of Indigenous journalists.
This fellowship is designed for Indigenous collegiate journalism students and early-career journalists who want to gain hands-on newsroom experience. Each summer, Underscore Native News hosts and trains one fellow through a 10-week internship in Portland, Oregon.
Participants receive an immersive and supportive experience where they can build reporting skills, learn from newsroom professionals, and explore pathways into journalism.
The fellowship helps create more opportunities for Indigenous voices in media and supports better representation in an industry that has historically underrepresented communities of color.
The deadline for this opportunity was March 6, 2026, and applications are now closed.
Deadline: March 6, 2026
Location: Portland, Oregon
Opportunity: 10-week Indigenous Journalism Fellowship
