The VA250 Visionary Sovereign Voices Youth Competition invited Native artists and writers ages 18–24 to share their vision for the future of Tribal sovereignty and the United States.

The competition asked youth to respond to the meaning of the American 250th Semiquincentennial as a dual citizen Indigenous person. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their dreams for a more respectful sovereign-to-sovereign relationship between Tribal Nations and the United States.

Five winners were selected to receive $500 and were invited to attend a VA250 event in Williamsburg, Virginia, on April 24–25, 2026. Winners had the opportunity to read or perform their work, including poems, essays, songs, interpretive dance, or other creative expressions.

The event centered the unvarnished history and lived experiences of Tribal Nations who stewarded these lands long before the Declaration of Independence.

This opportunity gave Native youth a powerful platform to share their voices, honor sovereignty, and help shape the national conversation during America’s 250th anniversary.

The deadline for submissions was March 22, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST, and the competition is now closed.

Deadline: March 22, 2026
Location: Nationwide
Award: $500 and travel support to Williamsburg, Virginia
Eligibility: Native artists and writers ages 18–24
