Shimá Storytelling features UNITY Executive Director

Shimá means “my mother” in the Navajo language. Three Navajo women, in partnership with the Navajo Nation Library, team up to offer a grassroots reading program for youth of all ages featuring storytelling, singing and activities in Diné Bizaad (Navajo). Shimá Storytelling, held every other Wednesday via Zoom, began in 2019 with facilitators Radmilla Cody, Pauletta Chief-Lee and Stephanie Littlehat.

Cowlitz youth host virtual Fall retreat

The Cowlitz Indian Tribe Youth Council recently held its annual Fall retreat, which was held virtually. The Cowlitz Tribe is made up of Southwestern Coast Salish and Sahaptan people who are Indigenous to the Pacific Northwest located in Washington state. The retreat agenda was filled with guest speakers covering important topics such as youth empowerment, tribal history and language, and finances. In addition, the youth council accepted nominations for officers and held its election. Read More
