This month marked a major milestone for Mahiya Ramirez, who proudly graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with her Bachelor’s degree—a moment that reflects years of dedication, resilience, and purpose. “This month I graduated from UCO with my BA!! So happy,” she shared, celebrating an achievement that will carry her into the next chapter of her leadership journey.

Even while celebrating graduation, Mahiya remained deeply connected to her community through her work at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City. During the Winter Holiday Art Market, she engaged with Native artists, visitors, and community members, creating space for connection and storytelling. Through these conversations, she also uplifted UNITY’s mission—sharing information about the upcoming 50th Anniversary and the National UNITY Conference. Her presence at the market reflected her role as both a cultural ambassador and a connector, bridging opportunities between artists, organizations, and youth.

Her civic engagement continued through participation in the museum’s Winter Solstice gathering, a moment of reflection and cultural significance that honors seasonal change and Indigenous traditions. These experiences highlight her commitment to staying grounded in culture while moving forward in her personal and professional journey.

Behind the scenes, Mahiya has also been focused on planning and refining her upcoming speed workshop for the UNITY Midyear Conference. By narrowing down her ideas and preparing intentional content, she is ensuring that her workshop will inspire and empower Native youth who attend. This preparation reflects her dedication to creating meaningful learning spaces where creativity, culture, and environmental awareness intersect.

Through every experience this month, Mahiya continues to balance celebration with purpose—honoring her accomplishments while staying focused on the work ahead. Her journey reflects the power of education, cultural connection, and community engagement working together.

The UNITY Earth Ambassador Program continues to uplift leaders like Mahiya Ramirez who are stepping into new chapters while remaining committed to service and advocacy. This year’s cohort represents Indigenous youth who are achieving milestones, building careers, and strengthening their communities at the same time. Through leadership, culture, and connection, they are shaping a future that honors where they come from while creating new paths forward.
