On April 28, 2024, the FINAL Youth Council’s Prevention Committee hosted a powerful and engaging event at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Arizona, titled “Kick Fentanyl Out of Our Communities!” The event brought together youth and community members to raise awareness about the growing fentanyl crisis and its impact on Native communities, especially youth.
The Prevention Committee delivered a thoughtful and informative presentation on the dangers of fentanyl, highlighting its devastating effects on Native families and stressing the importance of education, awareness, and community-based prevention strategies. The discussion encouraged open dialogue and equipped participants with knowledge to help protect themselves and others.
After the presentation, participants joined in a friendly, competitive game of kickball—symbolically reinforcing the event’s message through physical activity and community bonding. The game served as a reminder of the importance of physical wellness and the role it plays in living a balanced, healthy life.
This event demonstrated the leadership of Native youth in addressing serious issues while promoting health, unity, and proactive solutions.
