We are excited to invite you to a “Know Before You Go” webinar to help advisors and chaperones prepare to travel with their youth groups to a UNITY Conference. This session, led by UNITY Trainer Dr. Pearl Yellowman, will focus on Creating a Safety Plan for your youth group to ensure a safe, informed, and stress-free travel experience.

Webinar Description:
Traveling with youth is an incredible opportunity, but it also requires careful preparation to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being. In this session, we’ll provide guidance on creating a safety plan, reviewing UNITY’s and the hotel’s safety measures, and answering key questions about travel-related protocols.

Special attention will be given to essential travel considerations for Native youth, including ensuring proper identification documentation and understanding key preparation steps to avoid potential disruptions. This is your chance to gain clarity and confidence so you’re prepared for any situation your group might encounter during travel.

This webinar is an essential opportunity for advisors and chaperones to ask questions and gain peace of mind before the conference. Together, we’ll review tips and strategies to ensure your group’s experience is safe, positive, and free of unnecessary concerns.

We want to ensure you feel prepared and informed during your travels and time at the 2025 UNITY Midyear Conference. We have received a few inquiries about law officials questioning citizenship. We are providing the following guidance to ensure your safety and peace of mind:
Remain Calm and Polite: If approached by law enforcement or officials, stay calm and respectful.

  • Carry Identification: Always have your Tribal ID, Driver’s License, or another form of ID with you to confirm your U.S. citizenship.
  • Provide Accurate Information: If questioned, respond truthfully. Begin by stating that you are a U.S. citizen and a member of the [Tribe Name] Tribe located in [State].
  • Document the Encounter: If possible, record the interaction through video or audio, and make a note of essential details such as names, times, and any relevant circumstances.
  • Report the Encounter: After the encounter, report the incident to your chaperone/advisor and UNTIY’s Executive Director, Mary Kim Titla, at the Conference Registration Desk.

We do not expect any law officials to approach the UNITY Midyear Conference to enforce immigration laws. We contacted the Arizona Attorney General’s Office for additional guidance and information, which we will share with you once received. We understand this is a time of uncertainty, and inaccurate reports may be circulating. We are committed to sharing accurate information with you as we receive it.

We are here to support you and ensure a safe and productive conference experience. UNITY appreciates your commitment to your Native youth, and we look forward to supporting you on this journey. If you have any questions ahead of time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to headquarters@unityinc.org or UNITY@american-tradeshow.com.
