On August 11, 2023, members of the Bear River Youth Council, in collaboration with the Tribe’s Culture Department, came together to sing at Fortuna High School’s graduation ceremony. Four youth represented the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria by sharing traditional songs to honor Native students and promote spiritual wellness through cultural expression.
This meaningful performance served as a powerful representation of Native pride, resilience, and community. By incorporating cultural traditions into a mainstream school celebration, the Youth Council brought visibility to Indigenous identity and reminded graduates of their roots, strengths, and the importance of carrying culture forward.
The ceremony was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a spiritual moment of connection for Native youth and families in attendance. Through song, the Bear River Youth Council uplifted the graduating class and demonstrated the beauty of cultural unity and youth leadership.
