The Future Inspired Native American Leaders (F.I.N.A.L.) Youth Council, through its Culture and Wellness Committee, proudly hosted the “Rez Kidz Forever” Elder Dinner at the Phoenix Indian Center, bringing together over 75 guests for an evening of food, connection, and cultural celebration.
The dinner was a heartfelt tribute to the elders of the community—those who have paved the way and continue to guide younger generations with their stories, teachings, and presence. F.I.N.A.L. youth members coordinated every aspect of the event, from preparing and serving a delicious meal to organizing games and interactive activities that made the evening both meaningful and joyful.
A special highlight of the evening was a performance by students from McNary Elementary School, who were invited to share traditional dances with the elders in attendance. Their energy and respect for cultural practice added a beautiful touch to the event, bridging generations through movement, music, and community spirit.
The youth leaders expressed gratitude throughout the night to the elders for their wisdom and strength, and their work organizing this event demonstrated deep respect and growing leadership. From welcoming guests at the door to clearing tables and creating a warm atmosphere, the students upheld values of service, community, and cultural pride.
Events like the “Rez Kidz Forever” Elder Dinner embody the Social Wellness pillar of the UNITY framework by nurturing relationships between generations and creating intentional spaces for Indigenous youth and elders to engage with and support one another. These intergenerational connections are vital for cultural continuity, mutual respect, and the health of the community.
The evening concluded with smiles, laughter, and a strong desire to host more events like this in the future. The Culture and Wellness Committee received many words of appreciation for their efforts, and their commitment to honoring the past while building a more connected and compassionate future was evident in every detail.
F.I.N.A.L. Youth Council continues to model what youth-driven leadership looks like in action—rooted in community, guided by culture, and filled with heart.
