JULY 15, 2020 Virtual Regional Caucuses Day 1

Each year, the UNITY Organization convenes for a National Conference in various cities throughout the country. At these conferences, a young man and a young woman from each UNITY affiliated youth councils (along with individual members) participate in Regional Caucuses to identify the Top 10 Issues Facing Native Youth each year. These Regional Caucuses serve as a networking opportunity as well as a brainstorming session for how to address community challenges. The following year’s NUC Executive Committee uses these Caucus discussions to create that year’s National EC Initiative to address one of the Top 10 Issues.

We want you to be part of the first ever virtual UNITY Cultural Exchange! The National UNITY Conference Talent Show is always a big hit every year and just because we’re going virtual this year doesn’t mean we can’t have a Cultural Exchange. We’re recruiting now for singers, dancers, storytellers, social teaching, and more! The only difference this year is you must videotape yourself doing your presentation for four minutes and then send the video to us! Have you always wanted to share a little bit of your culture? Now’s your chance!

The UNITY Peer Guides are seeking Native youth to attend who have been impacted by crime, trauma or the juvenile justice systems to share how they have overcome their challenges.  Your participation in these Regional Native Youth Town Halls will help empower other youth who may be struggling.

Business Plan Competition

UNITY is partnering with The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED) once more to conduct a business plan competition as part of the upcoming 2020 UNITY Virtual Conference. The competition is open to UNITY-affiliated youth councils or teams of individual UNITY youth members between the ages of 14 and 24. Teams of two or three can be made up of high school students, college students, or a combination of both. The winners will be announced on July 23, during the last day of the UNITY Virtual Conference.

UNITY Series of Virtual Workshop Videos

We are now accepting submissions for our 2020 National UNITY Virtual Conference! The virtual conference will be offered free of charge for youth participants and youth council advisors; we are including as many components of the in-person conference as possible, including workshop sessions.

We are asking for submissions for workshops that will inform, engage, and motivate Native youth leaders ages 14-24 years old. Presentations by Native youth peers are always popular and highly encouraged!

  • I don’t have internet – can I participate?
    Yes, you can! First, it depends on whether you have a phone, laptop or tablet and whether you can access the internet at a nearby hotspot. We encourage you to explore your options where free wifi may be available, such as a fast food restaurant, school, library, a relative or friend. We’re hopeful you can join us via the internet during the live sessions. If you have a phone, we will have a phone line available so you can listen to the audio version. Finally, UNITY will record all sessions and make it available for viewing at a later date.
    There is also a question on the Registration to request an USB be mailed to you this fall with all of the recorded sessions. Request an USB by Registering today!
