2026 National UNITY Conference | Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

For nearly five decades, United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY) has uplifted individuals and youth councils whose leadership strengthens Native youth, families, and communities across Indian Country. As part of the 2026 National UNITY Conference—a historic gathering marking UNITY’s 50th Anniversary —we are proud to honor exceptional advisors, alumni, and youth councils whose dedication reflects the values of service, leadership, and cultural responsibility.

The UNITY Awards Program celebrates those who walk alongside Native youth, inspire positive change, and carry forward the legacy of UNITY through action and service.

2026 UNITY J.R. Cook Advisor of the Year Award

Effective and successful youth councils share one essential ingredient: a committed advisor who provides guidance, encouragement, and steady leadership while empowering youth to lead and make informed
decisions.

The J.R. Cook Advisor of the Year Award honors an individual who exemplifies these qualities—an advisor who works closely with youth council members, offers wise counsel, and nurtures the development of Native youth leadership. Named in honor of UNITY’s founder, J.R. Cook, this award recognizes the countless advisors who serve as mentors, advocates, and trusted supporters of youth voice and self-determination.

Each year, UNITY proudly honors one outstanding advisor whose extraordinary commitment has made a lasting impact on Native youth and their communities.

UNITY is now accepting nominations for the prestigious Eddie Wadda Alumni of the Year Award. This award recognizes outstanding achievement and service by an individual among UNITY alumni— defined as anyone over the age of 24 who was actively involved with UNITY as a youth participant,
advisor, trustee, or staff member. UNITY alumni carry forward the organization’s mission by giving back, mentoring future leaders, and uplifting Native communities through their work.

Named in honor of a former alumnus and advisor, Eddie Wadda, this award celebrates alumni who embody the spirit of UNITY through leadership, humility, and lifelong service. One distinguished alumnus or alumna will be honored during the 2026 National UNITY Conference GALA in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
