In celebration of Earth Day, in collaboration with the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), UNITY will announce its 2021 Class of Earth Ambassadors during the NMAI Youth in Action Live broadcast.  UNITY Earth Ambassador and 25 Under 25 Awardee Marco Ovando (Shoshone-Paiute Tribes), Kelsey Ducheneaux-Scott (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe) and Jack Pashano (Hopi) will also discuss the role traditional ecological knowledge plays in their work as farmers and entrepreneurs.

UNITY 25 Under 25 Awardee hosts virtual Self Defense Class


Join this free, virtual self-defense class with UNITY 25 Under 25 Awardee Kylie Hunts-in-Winter, a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. She is an experienced self-defense Instructor whose Brave Woman Campaign advocates empowering indigenous high school students against violence.

UNITY 25 Under 25 is Harvard bound

In this week’s highlight, we would like to share the news that one of UNITY’s 25 under 25 awardees, Kylie Hunts-In-Winter has recently been accepted to Harvard University. Kylie, who is not only an outstanding student, has been actively working in her local community  on projects such as womens’ self defense, as well as advocating among Arizona state officials for the change to Indigenous People’s Day.

The best place to learn your language, is around the dinner table

It’s no secret, that during this time of a pandemic, many students have struggled to meet and socialize, or learn and interact with their culture. With the current challenges present in our communities, some native students have been creative in their own projects learning their culture. In this week’s highlight, we would like to spotlight a personal project that Brooke Thompson, a UNITY 25 under 25 awardee, has done for herself. The project she created, were laminated dinner mats with common table items names in her language. Brooke was kind enough to share a little bit about the idea behind her projects as well as some images of her table mats. Read More
