UNITY 25 Under 25 Leader Dylan Baca, 18 years old, helped to make history in AZ! He created the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Initiative to push for Indigenous Peoples’ day in AZ. State Sen. Jamescita Peshlakai has been working since 2013 to get a bill passed that would replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day in Arizona, but she was always met with leaders telling her it would never happen. Can you think of a place that has transformed your learning and experiences into a way of knowing? Can you trace a new way of knowing back to a place? Think of a place that you’ve spent many hours, if not days, both thinking deeply and thinking about nothing. Do you have places in your life that allow that? If you have a place in mind, think about how you’ve grown with it. Do you come back to it each year? Or, just when you can? Or, do you wish you had a place like this? When thinking about these questions, it boils down to asking yourself if you have a relationship with a place.

2020 UNITY 25 Under 25 Honoree Timothy Benally named a 2020 Udall Scholar
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Tim Benally, a junior majoring in psychology at Penn State, has been awarded a Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. Benally, of Ganado (Navajo Nation), Arizona, was recognized by the Udall Foundation for his demonstrated commitment to improving health care for Native Americans living in the Navajo reservation.
