Jamie’s dedication to leadership and personal growth was showcased in her recent experience at the 2025 UNITY Midyear Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Despite feeling under the weather for much of the event, Jamie pushed through, embodying resilience and determination to be present and engaged with her peers. Her commitment to her community and leadership development was evident as she participated in various activities and engaged with other inspiring youth leaders throughout the conference.

This was Jamie’s first time attending the UNITY Midyear Conference, and it turned out to be a deeply rewarding experience. Although she faced health challenges, Jamie remained focused and dedicated to making the most of her time at the conference. She appreciated the days spent before the official conference sessions began, where she had the opportunity to meet with the executive committee and engage in meaningful discussions with other youth leaders. These moments allowed Jamie to gain insights into the work being done in various communities and furthered her passion for leadership within her own.

One of the highlights of the conference for Jamie was the cultural exchange and round dances, where she was able to connect with others through shared traditions and experiences. She admired the way the event was organized and the spirit of unity that filled the space. Being surrounded by inspiring youth and leaders from across the country energized Jamie and reaffirmed her commitment to both her personal journey and her role in uplifting her community.

Jamie reflected on her experience at the conference, saying, “It was wonderful to be a part of the UNITY Midyear Conference. It was fascinating and amazing. This was my first time being a part of the Midyear Conference. There were so many inspiring youth and leaders I was constantly surrounded by. It made me feel prepared and excited for the National Conference in San Diego.”

Through her participation in the UNITY Midyear Conference, Jamie demonstrated the power of showing up, even when things are tough, and the importance of community and cultural exchange in shaping the future of Indigenous youth leadership. Despite the challenges she faced, Jamie proved that resilience, passion, and dedication to community work are key to overcoming obstacles. She left the conference feeling inspired, empowered, and ready for the next step in her leadership journey.

Jamie’s experience is a reminder of the importance of coming together, learning from each other, and remaining steadfast in the face of challenges. She’s not only shaping her own future but also contributing to a larger movement of Indigenous youth leaders who are making a lasting impact.
