Missoula Native Youth Council Empowers Future Leaders at “Welcoming Our Future” Series

TPP event - Dana Kingfisher

The Missoula Native Youth Council played a vital role in the success of Welcoming Our Future, a four-session series focused on Child and Maternal Health, held at the University of Montana’s Payne Family Native American Center. With each session welcoming 45–50 youth and family members, the event fostered learning, connection, and social wellness for Native communities in the region.

Throughout the series, the Missoula Native Youth Council took the lead in organizing and facilitating breakout sessions specifically designed for younger participants. Council members provided peer mentorship and support for middle school-aged children and younger youth, creating a safe and engaging environment for open discussion, cultural sharing, and healthy development.

By guiding these sessions, Council members modeled leadership, empathy, and community responsibility—uplifting younger youth while reinforcing cultural values and wellness practices. Their presence helped bridge generations and made a lasting impact on both attendees and organizers.

The Council’s involvement in Welcoming Our Future is a powerful testament to the importance of youth leadership in community health and healing. Through their commitment and care, the Missoula Native Youth Council continues to invest in a thriving future for Indigenous youth and families.
