On May 30, 2024, the Siletz Tribal Youth Council (STYC) played a central role in the Siletz Tribe’s annual Run to the Rogue—a spiritual relay event that retraces the path of the Tribe’s forced removal from their homelands along the Rogue River to the present-day Siletz Reservation. This year’s run brought together approximately 30 STYC members and between 100–150 community members in a powerful act of remembrance, unity, and resilience.

In a moment of great honor and responsibility, Siletz youth were invited to carry the eagle staff for the first leg of the journey—marking a historic first for the youth council. Carrying the eagle staff is a sacred role, symbolizing leadership, cultural strength, and spiritual guidance. Their participation reflected the trust placed in today’s youth to carry forward the prayers, stories, and strength of their ancestors.

The Run to the Rogue is more than a physical challenge; it is a spiritual act of reconnection. By participating, the Siletz Tribal Youth Council demonstrated their commitment to cultural revitalization and healing, and honored the legacy of their people with every step.

Through their leadership and presence, the youth not only honored the past but also paved the way for a stronger, spiritually grounded future.
