The Mvskoke Nation Youth Council believes that wellness begins with intention and is strengthened through community support. This year, members embraced opportunities to promote mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being—not just for themselves, but for those around them.
MNYC kicked off 2025 by supporting the Sons of Mvskoke’s New Year’s Eve Sobriety Celebration. Members helped coordinate activities, manage food service, and lead cultural games. The event brought together youth and families to ring in the new year with purpose, laughter, and community. This celebration reinforced MNYC’s stance on sobriety and wellness as a foundation for a healthy future.
In early spring, MNYC launched the “Hotvle En Pefatkvlke” (Wind Runners), a youth running group designed to promote physical activity, cultural grounding, and community bonding. With the support of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Scholarship Foundation and Mvskoke Nation Youth Services, members began a 10-week training cycle to prepare for local 5K events. The group has already participated in community fun runs and is planning to host a walk in Muskogee to mark World Family Fitness Day.
MNYC also prioritized inclusive fitness. Members participated in a volleyball tournament hosted by Thlopthlocco Victim Services, where the focus was on teamwork and building awareness about consent and healthy relationships. The event encouraged connection through sport while weaving in vital education on respect and safety.
Throughout the year, MNYC has also focused on mental health. During monthly meetings, they have participated in guided discussions, wellness check-ins, and resilience training led by local mentors and mental health professionals. These practices are designed to help youth process their experiences and support one another through life’s challenges.
By weaving physical activity, cultural pride, and mental health into their daily lives, MNYC is modeling a holistic approach to wellness. These efforts are more than events—they are a lifestyle rooted in tradition, driven by purpose, and sustained through community.
