Youth Learn Peaceful Advocacy at Community Action Planning Workshop

Ashley MMIW event - Carrie Brown

On March 23, 2025, a group of 25 youth and community members gathered at Three Creeks in Big Pine, California, for a powerful Community Action Planning workshop centered on peaceful advocacy, cultural preservation, and environmental protection.

This gathering offered participants a unique opportunity to learn from experienced activists who shared tools and strategies for creating meaningful change through nonviolent action. Attendees engaged in hands-on sessions focused on how to organize peaceful protests, use visuals and messaging effectively, and raise awareness about important issues without causing harm or escalating conflict.

A central theme of the day was the importance of standing up for both the natural environment and cultural rights—a reflection of the deep connection Indigenous communities hold with the land and their traditions. Through group discussions, storytelling, and interactive demonstrations, youth explored how to amplify their voices and build movements grounded in respect, compassion, and ancestral knowledge.

By the end of the session, participants walked away with greater confidence in their ability to lead and support peaceful advocacy efforts in their communities. The workshop also fostered a sense of unity and purpose, reminding all in attendance that standing up for what’s right can be done with dignity, purpose, and collective strength.

Events like this empower the next generation of leaders to protect what matters most—our land, culture, and future—while honoring the teachings of peace and balance.
