Executive Committee Meets in Grand Ronde for Retreat Training

Earlier this month, the National UNITY Council Executive Committee (NUC EC) hosted their retreat at the Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, Oregon. The NUC EC engaged in numerous topics including campaign building discussions and strategies. National UNITY Co-Presidents address tribal leaders at NCAI Convention

Imagine being thrust onto a national stage in front of tribal leaders from across the country. That opportunity happened for National UNITY Council Co-Presidents Joseph Davis, Akimel O’odham, and SuSun Fisher, Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, when they were invited to do a presentation at the 75th Convention of the National Congress of American Indians in Denver, Colorado. The convention drew hundreds of tribal leaders from reservations, communities, and Alaska Native villages. Fisher and Davis spoke to tribal leaders about UNITY’s successful track record of empowering Native youth and developing youth councils in the U.S.

Call for presenters:  UNITY seeks Speed Workshop submissions for Midyear Conference

Are you Interested in presenting at the 2019 UNITY Midyear Conference? We are now accepting submission for our very popular Speed Workshops. Similar to speed dating, presenters speak to groups of 10 participants at a time while youth participants rotate between tables of topics that interest them. This format of “workshopping” is meant to keep your audience engaged and feeling comfortable enough to contribute to the discussion. There is always a high interest for Peer-to-Peer youth-led workshops.

AISES Conference attracts hundreds of Native youth

Several hundred Native youth gathered in Oklahoma City in October for the annual AISES National Conference, engaging with inspirational speakers, such as Dr. John Herrington, the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to travel to space, and participating in many networking sessions that promoted STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). UNITY staff and youth leaders connected with participants throughout the conference and with an outreach booth during the College and Career Fair.

UNITY Earth Ambassador alumnus and 25 Under 25 leader, Rory Wheeler (Seneca), advocated for the development of UNITY youth councils as he presented to the membership of the United South and Eastern Tribes, better known as USET. The 2018 USET Sovereignty Protection Fund (USET SPF) Annual Meeting was hosted by the Seneca Nation of Indians at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in New York.

42nd annual National UNITY Conference reaches new peaks

For the fifth consecutive year, the United National Indian Tribal Youth, Inc.’s (UNITY) conference participation records were surpassed at the 2018 National UNITY Conference, held earlier this month in San Diego, California. More than 2,400 gathered for the annual event that combines culturally relevant messaging with leadership skill-building. For 42 years, UNITY has provided essential support to Native American and Alaska Native youth, ages 14-24, instilling a foundation for youth leaders and advocates to activate and build upon positive change in their communities. Advisors, please download the attached forms. The Medical Authorization and Liability Release form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian if the participant is a minor. Keep the completed form with you during the conference.

The On-Site Registration form is only for those registering at the conference. This form includes signature lines for: Commitment to Participate and Liability Release, Medical Authorization and Liability Release, and Photographic Release. The conference is expected to have the largest number of attendees in UNITY’s history, so to save time, please complete before starting the on-site registration process.
